Instructor: Melody Williams
Class Description: Did you recently purchase a new sewing machine, or pull an old machine out of storage? Are you new to home sewing, or has it been years? Our in-person class covers everything you need to get started using sewing machines, including threading, tension, bobbin winding, checking out the machine manual, safety, and testing out the machine’s capabilities. After covering the basics, we will practice several stitches and strategies to get you started. Sewing machines are available at Textiles West––bringing your own machine is not necessary.
Important Note: This is not a class for machine repair or maintenance. If you have a machine that does not appear to be in working order, please check our class list for Sewing Machine First Aid.
Student supply list:
Scissors or snips
All-purpose thread (not quilting or coat/button thread)
Flatweave fabric (cotton quilting fabric, muslin)
Optional: Your sewing machine (including machine needle, bobbin, and manual*)
