Instructor: Melanie Audet
This class will teach and let the student play with surface design techniques in conjunction with mechanical resists such as corn dextrin and potato dextrin to create layers on fabric. Students will learn how to thicken natural dyes with gum tragacanth and how to directly apply the dye to fabric using thermofax screens, stamps and monoprinting techniques. The resist adds texture and pattern to the design of the fabric. Students will make samples of the different techniques and walk away with a sample binder for future reference. This class is great for quilters and garment makers looking to make unique and one of a kind fabric.
